How Can You Learn Web Design On Your Own?On November 22, 2022 by Micarah
Learning online has become one of the best ways to study anything. Learning is easier nowadays, because we have access to tutorials and courses, how-to guides and even books online. Some of the content is free and some of it is premium, but the fact remains, there are a lot of resources online, for any topic.
Web design is a frequently discussed topic that people love studying. Since learning online is one of the easiest and most practical ways to learn anything, here are some ways you could learn web design on your own.
Learning the Basics of Web Design
Web design lies in knowing HTML and CSS. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language while CSS stands for Cascading Styling Sheets.
HTML gives you the bare bones of your site while CSS gives you the stylization of the site. One gives you content, the other makes it pretty. You have to be familiar with both if you want to change design elements. Not every site comes with a fancy graphical control panel that lets you drag and drop elements.
Learning By Doing
Sometimes, the best way to learn how to do something is to do it. Observing other sites and seeing what they look like should give you an idea of how things work. There should also be plenty of tutorials online that should give you an idea of how you can start working on designing your own site.
Repetitive tasks are not the way to go. Make sure that you are actually learning and creating something, not just going in circles and writing repetitive code.
The Visual Part
Web design isn’t just about functionality and knowing how the front-end works. It is also about knowing what the site will actually look like. If it is a mess of colors and images that will scare people, then you should go back to the drawing board.
Learn some artistic approaches to web design, observe trends and definitely look up some tutorials. Learn how to use the grid to your advantage, to center and decenter objects based on a clear goal.
Stick to Simple Things
The best sites look the simplest, or rather, are simple to navigate. No visual elements will be in your way and nothing looks out of place. There are enough interactive elements, but never too many to confuse or overwhelm a visitor.
Learning web design on your own is possible and much easier if you follow these steps and focus on the basics. If you hit a roadblock, look up tutorials or consider taking an online course.
